Every book in Little Bookshoppe is personally inspected and graded before listing. We describe what we see, honestly - so you can shop with confidence, especially for preloved titles.

A note on preloved books: Even our highest-graded used books have had a previous life. They may carry the warmth of a dog-eared page, a slight scent of another home, or the subtle character that only a read book has. We always disclose known flaws — but please know that by nature, preloved means previously owned. We believe that’s part of what makes them special.

Important to know

What "used" always means, regardless of grade

All books graded Used — Like New through Used — Fair are preloved copies. No matter how well-preserved, a used book may have minor variations from a brand new copy — a faint smell, slightly soft spine, or imperceptible shelf wear. These are not defects we hide; they are simply the nature of a book that has been loved before. Book condition are shown in the flex video, please check the video before placing your order.

Brand New
Sealed or unread — straight from the publisher or distributor

What to expect

  • Sealed in original packaging (when applicable)
  • Crisp, unmarked pages — no writing or highlights
  • Tight, uncracked spine
  • No shelf wear, folds, or stains
  • Smells like a freshly printed book

Will not have

  • Any writing, stamps, or markings
  • Bent or creased pages
  • Spine creases or cracks
  • Stains, moisture marks, or yellowing
This is a preloved book. Despite its near-perfect appearance, it has been previously owned. Small imperfections invisible in photos may exist — but overall, you’d barely know it wasn’t new.
Remaindered Copy
New but marked — surplus stock from publishers or bookstores

What to expect

  • Unread with clean, unmarked pages
  • Tight, intact spine — never been read
  • A remainder mark — usually a small ink stamp or marker line on the bottom page edges
  • Minimal to no shelf wear
  • May have a slight bookstore or warehouse scent

Will not have

  • Highlights or handwriting inside
  • Significant wear or damage
  • Bent or creased pages
The remainder mark is a publisher’s mark — not damage. It does not affect readability. These books are essentially new at a better price.
Used — Like New
Preloved but exceptionally well-kept — read once or barely used

What to expect

  • Pages are clean — no visible writing or highlights
  • Spine is intact with minimal to no creasing
  • Cover looks nearly new — minor shelf wear only
  • May have a very faint "used book" scent
  • Possible light shelf wear on cover edges

Will not have

  • Visible writing, stamps, or highlights
  • Bent or folded pages
  • Notable stains or moisture marks
  • Broken or heavily creased spine
This is a preloved book. Despite its near-perfect appearance, it has been previously owned. Small imperfections invisible in photos may exist — but overall, you’d barely know it wasn’t new.
Used — Very Good
Preloved and well-read — shows light signs of a good life

What to expect

  • Pages are clean and readable — no major markings
  • Spine may have light creasing from reading
  • Cover may show light wear on corners or edges
  • Possible faint pencil markings (erased or minimal)
  • May have a mild used book scent
  • Slight yellowing on page edges (natural with age)

Will not have

  • Heavy highlighting or handwriting throughout
  • Torn, missing, or severely bent pages
  • Water damage or staining
  • Broken spine or loose pages
This book has been read and loved. It is fully readable and intact — just not pristine. Perfect for readers who care more about the story than the shelf aesthetic.
Used — Good
Preloved with visible wear — honest signs of being read and enjoyed

What to expect

  • Text is fully readable — no missing pages
  • Cover intact, but with visible wear or scuffs
  • Spine may be noticeably creased or soft
  • May have highlights, underlines, or pencil notes
  • Some page yellowing or light edge wear
  • Possible name or stamp on inside cover

Will not have

  • Torn or missing pages
  • Water damage affecting readability
  • Detached or broken cover
  • Heavy mold or unpleasant odors
All markings and flaws are disclosed in the individual listing. We always recommend asking for photos before purchasing a “Good” condition book if you’d like to see specifics.
Used — Fair
Preloved with significant wear — best for reading, not collecting

What to expect

  • Complete text — all pages present and readable
  • Significant cover wear, fading, or scuffing
  • Heavy spine creasing — may have a cracked spine
  • Writing, highlighting, or stamps throughout
  • Noticeable yellowing or tanning of pages
  • Possible library stamps or stickers

Will not have

  • Missing or unreadable pages
  • Detached cover (unless noted)
  • Mold or severe water damage
  • Anything that prevents you from reading it
Fair condition books are priced for readers who want the content at the lowest possible cost. We always provide detailed descriptions and photos for Fair books — please read the listing carefully and feel free to ask questions before buying.

Assessed for creasing, cracking, and whether the book lies flat when open

Cover

Checked for scuffs, fading, dents, peeling, and edge wear

Scent

Noted if there's a notable musty, smoky, or strong smell that may not suit all readers

Moisture & stains

Any water marks, staining, or moisture damage are photographed and disclosed
